Well. We signed the dotted lines and were handed the deed to 11.7 acres of pasture and timber.
Who would have thought that the homesteading dream would start in our mid-twenties, as parents to a little toddlie gal and bringing along a German shepherd mutt. “Surely”, we thought “oh, surely, it’ll be at least 5 to 10 years before we can even consider buying land.”
But no, no.
The Lord had bigger plans for us.
The Dream
You may be wondering… why did we buy land?
The short answer is, the POA of Bella Vista won’t let me bring home any baby chicks from Tractor Supply. Psh.
The long answer is, to escape the life of too much convenience and reliance on a system that doesn’t have our best interest in mind. We want to be in charge of our food, enjoy the night sky and air, stick our fingers in the mud, turn off the T.V. and honestly break a sweat. A life that our ancestors took part in, but maybe with better technology. You won’t see me churning butter without my countertop KitchenAid mixer! However, I might hang my clothes on the line to dry. I’ve heard it uses the latest technology of solar and wind; the most environmentally friendly option. ;)
So, “The Dream” was born. Cooper is pretty savvy & he’s got a grand plan. Maybe I can have him sit down with me to write it up for you here. But the gist is that we will be living in a metal barndominium.
Part craftsman shop, mostly home.
First things first, the electric company needs to come set in 3 poles and run powerlines so that we have access to electricity. Following that, we can get a well pump. The well is at a convenient location on top of that driveway you see in the above photo, about 450 ft from the dirt pad foundation, where our car is parked. The dirt pad foundation will be where our future home will sit.
“Yes” says the Lord, “I will do mighty miracles for you.”
-Micah 7:15
We have already enjoyed many hours of basking in the sun and are in awe with how quickly everything is changing with Spring washing over the land. Such a special time to be cultivating RAW land!!
